Paper Airplane Zine Library

The zine is one of the most popular forms of self-publishing. They are little booklets, not widely circulated, but they can cover and collect a vast variety of different types of works. Every zine is has it’s own unique style, concept, and story behind it’s production. Those in the self-publishing world appreciate zines in a different way than a mass-market paperback. Zines are a sort of collector’s item. Since very few of any zine is ever printed, some can be very difficult to get your hands on.

This is why Drury University is so lucky to have the Paper Airplane Zine Library. Located in the lobby of Olin Library, a large number of student, alumni, and other’s zines are on display and available for check out. This collection was began in 2011 by a student named Jennifer Sutcliff. In Jo Van Arkle’s Small Press Publishing class, Sutcliff discovered a passion for the zine and want to begin a collection on behalf of Drury.

Thus the Paper Airplane Zine Library.

Sutcliff wrote to small presses all over the country to collect zines for the library. Many responded and sent in their zines. There are zines about health. There are comic books and children’s stories. There are works of non-fiction and collections of poetry. The collection is extensive.

But Paper Airplane Zine Library is by no means complete. There is no limit to the amount of zines it could contain. So if you have a zine you want to share, send it in!
